How to Pray When You Don’t Know What to Say
Share
When you do not know what to say to God, you do not need to force perfect words. Prayer is not about sounding spiritual or having everything figured out. It is about coming as you are. Sometimes the most powerful prayer is simply sitting in God’s presence and whispering, “I am here.” God is not waiting for long speeches. He is listening for your heart. If all you can manage is one honest sentence like, “Help me,” “Hold me,” or “I need You,” that is enough. Even your silence, your tears, and your deep breaths are forms of prayer. Tears are indeed a language that God understands. When words feel impossible, try writing what is on your heart, even if it comes out in fragments. God understands fragments. You can write, “Today I feel,” “God I am afraid of,” or “I do not understand, but I trust You.” And when you still do not know what to say, let God’s Word speak for you. Reading a scripture or repeating a simple verse is prayer. Remember, God is not asking you for perfect prayers. He is inviting you into His presence. If today all you can offer is your presence and a quiet, “God I need You,” that is a complete and powerful prayer.
Romans 8:26 (KJV)
"Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered."
