Are You Praying for God’s Will?

Are You Praying for God’s Will?

“...nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.” — Luke 22:42 (KJV)

We often end our prayers by saying, “God, let Your will be done.”

But if we're being truthful, sometimes we've already decided what we want His will to be.

We want the relationship to work.

We want the opportunity to come through.

We want the door to open.

We want the situation to turn out exactly the way we've imagined.

So we pray, but deep down, there's only one answer we're prepared to accept.

That's where surrender becomes difficult.

Jesus gave us a powerful example in the Garden of Gethsemane. Knowing what was ahead of Him, He prayed to the Father and expressed what He was feeling. Yet He still surrendered, saying, “nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.”

True surrender doesn't mean we can't tell God what we want.

It means trusting Him enough to accept that what He wants may be different.

Sometimes God's answer will be yes.

Sometimes it will be no.

Sometimes it will be wait.

And sometimes He may lead us somewhere we never considered.

We won't always understand His answer when we receive it. A closed door can feel like rejection. A delay can feel like God isn't listening. An unexpected change can make us question everything.

But God's will isn't only good when it matches ours.

Faith means trusting that He sees what we cannot.

So when you pray, be honest with God about what you want. Ask Him boldly. Bring your desires, fears, and hopes to Him.

But leave room for Him to answer differently.

Instead of only praying, “God, give me what I'm asking for,” we also have to be willing to pray, “God, if You have something different for me, help me trust You.”

Because surrender isn't getting God to agree with our plans.

It's trusting Him with the outcome.
