Is Prayer Your Last Resort?

“Pray without ceasing.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:17 (KJV)
When life gets difficult, many of us know exactly what to do.
We pray.
We pray when we're worried, when we need an answer, when money gets tight, when someone we love is struggling, or when a situation feels completely outside of our control.
And that's exactly what we should do. God wants us to bring our burdens to Him.
But what about when everything is going well?
Sometimes prayer can quietly become something we turn to mostly when we need help. We seek God intensely during the storm, but once life settles down, so does our prayer life.
Scripture tells us to “Pray without ceasing.”
That doesn't mean we have to spend every moment of the day on our knees. It means prayer should be an ongoing part of our relationship with God, not something reserved for emergencies.
Prayer isn't only about asking God to change our circumstances.
It's thanking Him when things are good.
It's asking for wisdom before making decisions.
It's praying for others.
It's talking to Him about what's on our hearts.
It's simply making room for God in our everyday lives.
Jesus Himself made prayer a priority. Luke 5:16 says, “And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed.”
If Jesus intentionally made time to pray, we should understand how important prayer is in our own walk with God.
And it doesn't have to be complicated. You don't need perfect words or a perfect setting. You can talk to God throughout your day.
The important thing is that we don't wait until everything falls apart before we seek Him.
God shouldn't only hear from us when we need something.
Prayer is about relationship.
So yes, pray when you're hurting. Pray when you're afraid. Pray when you desperately need God's help.
But also pray when you're grateful.
Pray when you're at peace.
Pray when life is going well.
Don't make prayer your last resort.
Make it part of your everyday life.
